Significances of NCDS Election, mean a lot if Mr. Brown Both Bol elected”

Date/April/16/2009

By Samuel Matai-Jokngon Dabuol

Nueri are democratic egalitarian people. In this context, Nueri should be the paragon of democracy and egalitarianism. Democracy, government of, for, and by the people, has been proven as the best system of governance. And egalitarianism, the belief that all human beings are created equal, has been echoed by many constitutions, civil right acts, and human right declarations ever written. Therefore, Nueri should be proud of this because when they were still uneducated, they knew and practiced these things. So, they had high degree of common sense, logic, morality, and conscience. Having said that, the purpose of this article is to highlight the significances of election as fulfillment of democracy, judgment of achievements, assessment of popularity, and determination of tenure of office.

Without Mr. Brown Both Bol elected, the democracy will be kingship. There is no inheritance of position in democracy. Candidate Mr. Brown Both Bol must run and people must go to the poll to elect him. If there is no candidate like Mr. Brown Both Bol running, then there will be no people going to the poll next month, tyrants and kings will exploit the reluctance and Luke warmness of the people. Therefore, election is keeping an eye on the existence of democracy that Mr. Brown Both Bol spoke on it be haft all years long.

Election is judgment of achievements. At the end of the term, leader Mr. Brown Both Bol will be judged for what he has achieved by the end of his term. There are no sinecures in democracy. You must show your works like Mr. Brown Both Bol.

Election is the tangible assessment of popularity. Winning a election means people think the incumbent is still the best leader. He or she is still popular to them. They also think that something has been achieved during the term of office.

Election is the determination of tenure of office. Without election, a leader can rule indefinitely which is equal to kingship and tyranny. In democracy, the tenure is defined and at the end of it, leader must be re-elected. Otherwise, democracy will not exist as it is known.

As the Nuer community goes for the May 2, 2009 election, we must keep in mind that the significances of election are the fulfillment of democracy, judgment of achievements, assessment of popularity, and determination of tenure of office.
