30 January - (Juba) - The National Elections Commission is to establish committees throughout southern Sudan to monitor the forthcoming elections.
The GOSS spokesman on elections affairs, Goi Jooyul, told journalists in Juba that the process of forming the committees has already started:
[Goi Jooyul]: “With the formation of the committees everything will roll out. Right now I have brought letters to the state. Already we sent letters to the states and we have given letters to the Government of Southern Sudan to start appointing people to the high committees. As soon as the high committees are formed then the other processes, registration, the timetable and all these things will come up. Because everything will not be handled by the Government of Southern Sudan but by the southern Sudan High Commission for Elections.
Jooyul added that the chairman of the National Election Committee, Abel Alier, is expected to visit south Sudan to endorse the formation of the high executive committees.
