Situation In Akobo Area Empty

The Lou Community in Akobo County along the Pibor River are in total humanitarian crisis. This is as a result of their displacement from their homes – former settlement area by Jikany – by the armies from Sobat - Upper Nile State. The army arrived sometime back and force people out of their homes leaving behind every thing they own except for children and livestock. They thus kill any remaining animal of which got lost and found their way back to the place they called home.

The people tried to move to the Geeni area to find shelter. This proved even more dangerous as they came under severe attacked by the Murle found all over the area. The people are now concentrated around Akobo area where over population and over stocking cause a lot of discomfort and encourage the spread of disease.

The community on the other side of Akobo River has been given notice to move to the side of Akobo town. The reason is to give way for the Anuak who has been claiming the land ever since their defeat before some of us were even born. This of course will be too much for the community to take and only God with His mighty hands will be of any help.
The ironical thing is that both the Jikany and the Anuak are not many enough fill all the space left by the Lou. The Jikany are actually not willing to come back. Any reasonable person will expect a repeat of the Lou – Jikany war as a result of the violent displacement.

The Lou are as well not willing to go back to the Western Akobo due to the flock of Murle militia roaming all over and it dryness.

This people need aid from all the willing individuals and organizations for their survival. The harvest in Akobo area was very poor due to the flood that destroyed all the crops before they can be collected from the farms. Nyirol and Uror are yet to recover from the effect of the disarmament.
